The McMillan Portfolio

As of Friday, June 26th, we logged gains of $7,482 on closing our options trades with gains of 75% - 96.7%.  We have realized gains of on our closed trades in our long term portfolio.  Our unrealized gains in the LT portfolio are at 66.8% with dividends contributing nearly $1,900 overall.  The account has achieved gains of nearly 53% in 2009 and we are sitting on nearly $96K in cash.

We are maneuvering to enter some short/intermediate term trades in the portfolio but have been unable to find the set-ups we are looking for.  At this time, the NASDAQ-100s large cap tech stocks continue to move higher while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P-500 appear to be weakening.  The Russell-2000 and Semiconductor indexes are ready to commit one way or the other but it is unclear which direction they will move.

Fundamentally, the semiconductors appear ready to lead the markets higher as does large cap tech.  With market participants looking to take on more risk, the Russell-2000 should move higher as well.  Of course, the problem is that the markets have moved so far off of the bottoms they fell to in early March.  There is seasonal strength going into the July 4th holiday which means the markets could continue to move higher through Thursday.  Next week could be quite a different story.

Given our mixed outlook, we will be cautious in entering new positions but expect to provide a trade recommendation in the coming week.
